Dare to bare this summer with Broadmeads beauty team

29 May 2010

 - Credit:
Summer is finally here, but how confident do you feel about baring your skin after hiding it away for the last six months?
Fortunately, Broadmead’s beauty experts are on hand to offer shoppers tips on how to get their body beautiful and ready for the summer. Experts from two of Broadmead’s beauty teams at Boots and Debenhams have given us their easy-to-follow advice on summer make up and skin care. What’s great to know is it just takes a little TLC, so there’s no need to change your beauty routine drastically.

Five top tips from Boots at Broadmead:

1) Less is more

Summer make up should be light and fresh so swap your foundation for a tinted moisturiser. No7 Dual Protection Tinted Moisturiser (£11.00) is ideal for the hotter months of the year as it hydrates your skin without feeling too heavy. What's more, it contains that all-important SPF 15 which helps to protect your skin against urban pollutants, as well as the sun's harmful rays.

2) The perfect pout

Lips should be barely there with natural shades of lip liner and lipstick, combined with plenty of gloss. To make sure your lips are in tip top shape use a lip exfoliator beforehand – Benefit Lipscription (£23.50) is our personal favourite, while Max Factor Vibrant Curve Effect (£7.99) lip gloss keeps lips moisturised and primed for the ideal summer romance.

3) Chill out!

Chill out and calm your skin with Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief (50ml, £30). This product is perfect for treating your skin after a day in the sun and will provide rapid, long lasting hydration in a refreshing, oil-free gel. Use under or over make-up or as a five minute moisture mask. Also available in a spray – ideal for popping in your beach bag.

4) Dare to bare legs

With flirty floral skirts and city shorts all the rage, silky smooth legs are a must this season. A hair removal cream like Boots Expert Moisturising Hair Removal Cream (150ml, £4.29) is pain and fuss free. Just apply the cream, wait a few minutes, and then wipe away the hair, leaving skin smooth and soft

5) Treat your feet

So often neglected during the winter months, it’s time to give your feet the pampering they deserve. Put aside 30 minutes to get your toes ready for the summer. The best starter set around is Ms Pedicure’s Heal to Toe Makeover. This compact but perfectly formed set comprises nine of the best essentials for a great pedicure for just £9.99.

More helpful hints from Debenhams’ beauty team at Broadmead

1) Scrub off winter blues

The winter months can often leave skin looking dull and dry so why not treat your skin to a gentle exfoliator? Exfoliating is essential for helping to scrub away dead cells for a smoother, softer, more radiant skin. Natio Exfoliating Body Scrub with cypress, grapefruit and lemon (£12.00) is perfect for using in the shower, and will just add a couple of minutes to your shower routine.

2) Faking it

Fake tans are the perfect way to get a golden glow that is streakless, long-lasting and best of all, safe! Fake it flawlessly with a fake tan treatment at your local Debenhams or try a simple and effective do-it-yourself lotion. We love Fake Bake’s Gradual self tan lotion (£22.00).

3) The magic of colour

A golden glow from a bronzer or highlighter is the perfect finishing touch to your make-up, but make sure it’s healthy and natural looking. The trick for summer is to use it sparingly. Try just using a couple of brush strokes to subtly contour your cheekbones. Urban Decay Baked Bronzer (£15.56) and Natio Mineral Pressed Powder Bronzer (£18.00) both come highly recommended.

4) Great skin in minutes

The emphasis on having great skin is even greater in the summer. Most of your skin’s goodness comes from healthy eating and staying well hydrated. But, it also helps to use a hydrating mask at least once a week. Natio Hydrating Mask with organic rose hip oil and vitamin C (£14.00) or Chanel Masque Destressent (£33.21) are just the trick as they give your skin the extra moisture boost it needs and are light enough for summer.

5) Spring clean

It’s essential that you wash your makeup brushes regularly as these can store dirt and bacteria and lead to unwanted allergies. Why not treat yourself to a new brush set for the summer? We love the Dior brush kit which at £70 is well worth it as it includes six luxurious and long lasting brushes for every occasion and comes in a classic black leather case.

Broadmead is spreading even more summer cheer with its online Start of Summer competition.
