The Marlborough Tavern shortlisted for National Award

One of Bath’s best loved pubs has been shortlisted for three prestigious national awards in the equivalent of the Oscars for the Pub industry.

The Marlborough Tavern, situated just behind the Royal Crescent, is a finalist in three categories of the Publican Food and Drink awards; best Gastro pub, best Food pub and best Chef, for Head Chef Richard Knighting.

The awards are sponsored by the Publican magazine and recognise the best standards of food and customer service in the industry. The Gastro pub of the year award is given to a pub which offers fresh, high quality food, run by an entrepreneurial chef. The Food pub of the year award will go to a great ‘all-rounder’ pub offering high quality food, to the highest standards in terms of both product quality and customer service. The Chef of the year award will be made to an individual who has shown evidence of menu development and innovation.

The Publican’s Editor, Caroline Nodder said: "These pub chefs and their pub businesses have already proved that they offer a market-leading experience for their customers and should be rightly proud of their achievement in getting this far. I look forward to welcoming all our finalists on the night of the awards for what promises to be a fantastic celebration of the industry’s true food and drink champions."

Joe Cussens, Proprietor of the Marlborough Tavern said: “Everyone at the Tav is delighted to have been shortlisted in three different categories of these prestigious awards. It has given the whole team a spring in their step, we have been nominated before but hopefully we can go one better this year and win an award. We are enormously proud of the delicious food on our menu and the high level of service offered to our customers. We are thrilled that our Head Chef, Richard Knighting has been shortlisted for Chef of the year. Only four Chefs in the Country are in the final and Richard’s place is well deserved, he works hard to deliver fantastic meals, using quality local suppliers and is regularly developing the menu with new and innovative dishes.”

The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on November 25th.
