Jason Donner Van shortlisted for WKD Golden Kebab Award

Jason Donervan, Bristol’s famous kebab van based on Clifton Triangle, has been shortlisted for the national WKD Golden Kebab Award - a nationwide competition celebrating everything that is great about Kebabs.

Kebabs are the nation’s fast food favourite. They often mark the end of a great night out with mates and WKD want to champion these delights of Turkish origin. The inaugural Kebab Awards and the first ever Good Kebab Guide (to be published later this year) will recognise not only great kebabs, but great establishments and great staff.

WKD worked with the Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh of kebabs, kebabologists Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham. They spent months touring ten cities, visiting over 400 kebab houses, covering 3,000 kebab miles, consuming litres of chilli sauce, a truck load of pitta bread, and a lot of cabbage. As well as gaining a reputation as kebab experts they gained several notches on their belts.

In each city they awarded a regional Silver Kebab winner, from this top ten they have announced a three-strong shortlist for the WKD Golden Kebab Award. Bristol’s Jason’s Donervan is up against some stiff competition from Edinburgh’s lively Café Piccante and Leed’s Zulfi’s.

Jason’s Donervan has been trading since the millennium, with their opening night held on December 31st1999. Jason - real name Mustapha - hit on the genius name when a customer told him he looked like Jason Donovan. His best seller, unsurprisingly, is the doner. The name is just the beginning of the van’s winning formula, as the friendly staff serve a delicious range of pitta lamb or chicken wraps and last year Jason’s Donervan received the highest possible 5 star rating in the council’s Scores on the Doors food hygiene rating. All this bodes well for this Bristolian bastion of brilliant kebabs. Good luck.
