Right now I am ...

Hashing out a brief and sketches for a new series of drawings exploring the idea of anger as an addiction, in much the same way as adrenaline can be. I’m aiming to produce images that convey rage as an instrument of coping and comfort, as it is for some. Not positively or negatively - just to explore the idea. I’m also designing Christmas cards!

My work is ...

In broad terms, my work is about ugliness and has been since I was very young. From overt grotesqueness to ugly thoughts and emotions, it’s something we’re all very familiar with. I want to demonstrate in my work that often, good things thrive in an ostensibly hideous state; that bad experiences make people stronger or better, that the things that compromise us are part of our identity. It never comes out quite as “nice” as I mean it to though...

I've been inspired by ...

Roald Dahl, Paul Jennings, Arthur Rackham, Egon Schiele, Dürer, Love, Spite, Embarrassment, Elephants, Horses, Picasso, Aches and Pains, Hip-Hop and Pancakes. And Shadow Of The Colossus.

I've just read ...

Charlatan: The Fraudulent Life Of John Brinkley by Pope Brock. We need to remind ourselves that the reason modern quacks dish out sugar pills and faux-mysticism is because they aren’t allowed to maim us with power tools anymore.
